Spring De-Cluttering
CLUTTER
Springtime! What a better time to do your Spring-cleaning, to start fresh, to imitate nature! You will feel so much better after everything will be put away, filed, cleaned.
Spring-cleaning happens once a year but that doesn’t mean that you cannot do it more often.
By cleaning, I mean clearing, getting rid of your clutter.
A major clearing should be done every 7 years (starting on your birthday) because every 7 years, every cell in your body has been renewed and you are almost like a new person. If you are attentive to what’s happening in your life, you will notice that important events and major changes occur at that time and it is up to you to make more changes, to let go of the past, to re-evaluate, to re-invent yourself and to start fresh.
Clutter is clinging to things; it’s resisting change; it’s closing the door to opportunities.
When you get rid of your clutter, you open yourself to new opportunities.
Seeing clutter will make you tired and lethargic even depressed. Organizing will give you the ability to enjoy life to its fullest and will free up energy and will give you new vitality.
You may find yourself isolated because you won’t want to have anybody coming to your home. Places need attention as much as people do. They need to be nurtured.
Clutter symbolizes a constricted flow of energy, which leads to a constricted flow of well-being and money.
Clutter is stagnant energy that affects your health physically and emotionally. You will have a tendency to get impatient, to get upset more easily and it will create frictions with your family, friends and colleagues.
Clutter may cause dust to accumulate and create allergy problems.
Organize what you see but as important what’s hidden in your closets and cupboards.
Most people only wear about 20% of their wardrobe, 80% of the time! Do not keep things just in case! Of course, after getting rid of it, you may miss it and regret it but realize that better things will turn up in your life in the right time.
Don’t think that by putting your clutter away in the attic, the shed, the garage, the basement you will solve your problem. The attic and the basement represent your subconscious and things in these areas can restrict your higher aspirations and possibilities. It symbolizes issues from the past that haven’t been dealt with and you will tend to worry more about your future.
Cars interiors and trunks can get messy and they too should be checked regularly.
Check your wallet, handbag, and briefcase.
It’s also easy to accumulate magazines, newspapers, articles, clippings, outdated coupons, shopping lists, old papers. Go through them often, keep only what interests you and will use and recycle the rest. Buy a filing cabinet even if you don’t have a home office; unfortunately, our lives are full of papers we have to keep.
At home and at work, a clear desk means a clear mind. A clear desk increases productivity and creativity. Allow yourselves a few minutes every day to clear your desk, files your papers, go through your notes and “Post-it”. Transfer the current ones on pads, books or on your computer.
If you have a lot of clutter to go through, get yourself ready before you start.
Get some boxes and labels. Label a box for example for Trash, another one for Repair, another one for Recycling, another one for Relocating and even a Dilemma box if you can’t decide right away. You can put them in storage for a while and see if you notice a difference.
Don’t overwhelm yourself. Start small, with a drawer, a cupboard, a closet.
Try to set time aside for that purpose every week.
Do not clear someone else’s clutter without their permission; offer to help them.
Don’t let thing accumulate, put everything away when you go along; you will save so much time. Teach your children to do the same, to tidy their room before dinner or before going to bed. Show them first and provide them with storage.
And now last but not least, the cluttering of the mind. What do you think that is?
It’s worrying, criticizing, judging, gossiping, moaning and complaining!
Let go of all negative feeling and of people that create tension in your life, your flaky friends. Release negative past.
Allow yourself some free time to yourself; you don’t need to be constantly busy or with people. Clear your calendar for You, if you have to!
Learn how to be quiet and to listen to nature or silence; cluttering of the mind is also listening constantly to the radio or watching television.
Getting rid of your clutter and applying Feng Shui principles will open the doors of perception to the relationship between yourself and your environment in a way you never dreamed possible.
